Laser speckle is a fine shimmering or grain-like interference pattern that can appear when coherent laser light reflects from a screen. It is especially relevant to modern RGB-laser projectors.
Why the screen matters
The projector is one part of the speckle system, but the screen surface changes how coherent light scatters. Texture, coatings and optical layers can make speckle more or less visible.
What independent testing found
In 2026, The Hook Up compared ten standard-throw screens with RGB-laser projectors. Its testing reported very low speckle on Silver Ticket WAB, relatively low speckle on Valerion Fresnel, and more visible speckle on several “fusion” style ALR materials. NothingProjector's long-throw lenticular material fell into that latter group in the reviewer's setup.
Why that result is not universal
Speckle visibility depends on projector model, viewer sensitivity, screen distance, focus, content and material. A reviewer seeing speckle does not mean every viewer will reject the screen.
Best practical test
Use a sample with your own projector. Display a large white, gray, red or blue field, then move your eyes and head slightly. Also watch panning shots over grass, ice or sky, where speckle can become more noticeable.
Test the material before committing to a full-size screen.
