Why a sample can be more useful than another spec sheet

A sample lets you compare the material against your painted wall or existing screen while holding the projector, content and room lighting constant. That makes it useful for questions such as “does the image look too dim?”, “does this laser projector show speckle?”, “does skin tone shift?” and “how much does side light wash the image out?”
A practical sample test
- Tape the sample flat on the wall near the center of the intended image.
- Project a bright scene, a dark scene, sports content and a large single-color field.
- Compare with lights off, then repeat with the lights you actually use.
- Move to the left and right seats to inspect off-axis brightness and color.
- With RGB-laser projectors, look for fine shimmering or speckle in large bright areas.
- Do not extrapolate exact full-screen brightness from one tiny patch; use it to judge material character.
